Cochin
Cochin (Kochi) is made up of a handful of islands and peninsulas including the main hub of Ernakulum and the historic areas of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. Most of these images are from Fort Kochi, where you can still see and feel the Portuguese influence. As a European Studies major, I love being here and am getting my little Mediterranean fix. Sometimes it feels like Cuba or Latin America too—the same laid-back vibe, decaying architecture, vintage cars, bicycles used for everything, communist party emblems, Catholic churches, kids in school uniforms, parks, playgrounds, palm trees, etc. The last two pictures are from a Christmas celebration at a Catholic school for girls.
